Return Home USGA rules govern play, unless otherwise noted by the course or the league. The format of play is usually low net based upon a participant's handicap. The handicap is determined and kept by the Saturday Golf League. Many players have USGA handicaps, but the league handicap is used to determine one's net score. New members are placed into a Callaway system (see the Callaway Scoring System Page) until completing 3 rounds of play. Once a handicap for the player is established, the player will be placed in one of three flights and compete against other players of similar abilities for prize awards. Every player must have a 36 handicap or better. The cost to play a particular course is negotiated by the league and posted on the league schedule. Courses are posted for a 3 month period. Players know well in advance the name, location and cost to play a particular course. If a walking option is available, it also is indicated (see current tournament schedule). The posted cost of play includes prize money or gift certificates from the course's pro shop. Optional events are also available at extra costs to members, i.e. low putts, closest to the pin, skins, and so forth. Membership requirements are minimal. You must already know how to play golf at a reasonable skill level. This means that players should have a minimum of a 36 playable handicap. If you are uncertain about your skills, call the league for guidance. The annual membership cost currently is only $30.00. But the benefits of membership in the Saturday Golf League are numerous.
